Costing a rental fleet: what does ski rental equipment cost?
Updated: September 2026
How many skis, snowboards, boots and helmets does a rental operation need – and what net asset value does that create? This guide works through three typical fleet sizes and shows how to place the investment across one season.
The short answer
- A small rental fleet of 50 units comes to roughly EUR 24,140 net, 100 units to roughly EUR 49,730 net, 250 units to roughly EUR 124,180 net.
- Basis: EUR 420 per pair of skis, EUR 299 per board, EUR 129 per pair of snowboard boots, EUR 149 per binding, helmets from EUR 29 – all net and on average.
- Financing starts at EUR 5,000 net asset value: hire purchase in Germany, leasing in Switzerland, both in Austria, terms from 6 to 60 months.
How many units does a rental operation need?
One unit is one pair of skis or one snowboard. The count follows beds, day tickets or course places in the catchment area, and it follows the peak week rather than the season average – selling out in the holiday weeks means losing revenue exactly when day rates are highest.
- Hotel or resort: roughly one unit per 4 to 6 beds when rental is actively promoted
- Ski school: one unit per course place in the peak week plus a reserve for defects
- Rental station: units based on peak occupancy, not the annual mean
- Reserve: 5 to 10 % extra units for repairs and downtime
Getting the ski-to-snowboard mix right
In most DACH operations skis clearly lead. A ratio of around 60 % skis to 40 % snowboards covers mixed guest groups well; in freestyle and park regions it shifts towards boards. Snowboards additionally need boots and bindings, which noticeably changes the asset value per unit.
What the fleet costs through financing
The monthly instalment depends on term, down payment, credit standing and model. Rule of thumb: the longer the term, the lower the instalment and the lighter the load on the season's cash flow. Generate your concrete instalment in the calculator and print it as a non-binding quote.
- Minimum asset value: EUR 5,000 net
- Terms: 6, 12, 24, 36, 48 or 60 months
- Down payment in euros or percent
- REGENIX Care can be financed along (purchase: one-off per unit, leasing: monthly surcharge)
When to order the fleet
Production, custom topsheets and delivery need lead time. Planning in spring or summer leaves room for sample approval, serial number registration and storage before the season starts. Restocking during the season is possible but runs on the stock available at that moment.
Three fleet sizes compared
All values are net, non-binding averages based on our B2B prices. The composition is a planning example and can be changed freely.
- 50 units · 30 pairs of skis, 20 boards, 20 boots, 20 bindings
- EUR 24,140
- 100 units · 60 pairs of skis, 40 boards, 40 boots, 40 bindings, 50 helmets
- EUR 49,730
- 250 units · 150 pairs of skis, 100 boards, 100 boots, 100 bindings, 120 helmets
- EUR 124,180
- Price per pair of skis / per board
- EUR 420 / EUR 299
- Boots per pair / binding each / helmet from
- EUR 129 / EUR 149 / EUR 29
Minimum asset value for financing: EUR 5,000 net. Calculate your monthly instalment for 6 to 60 months directly in the calculator.
Season payback – how to estimate it
The calculation below is a pure arithmetic example with freely chosen assumptions, not a revenue promise. Insert your own day rates, rental days and occupancy.
- Net asset value (100 units)
- EUR 49,730
- Assumed day rate per unit
- EUR 25
- Assumed rental days per season
- 100 days
- Assumed average occupancy
- 60 %
- Calculated season revenue (100 × EUR 25 × 100 × 60 %)
- EUR 150,000
